Each date is the first day of the month; the Feast itself is observed the preceding evening, since a Baháʼí day begins at local sunset.

What is the 19 Day Feast?

The 19 Day Feast is the regular community gathering of Baháʼís. It is not one of the eleven Holy Days, but it is the heartbeat of local Baháʼí life. Every month, the community comes together for prayer, consultation, and fellowship.

Devotional

Prayers and readings from the Baháʼí writings, offered to create a spiritual atmosphere before any business is discussed.

Administrative

The community consults on its affairs, shares news, and plans activities. This is the consultative portion of the gathering.

Social

A time for food, friendship, and hospitality — strengthening the bonds of unity among friends and neighbours.

How is the 19 Day Feast different from a Holy Day?

What are the three parts of the 19 Day Feast?
Baháʼu'lláh described the Feast as having a devotional part (prayer and readings from the sacred writings), an administrative part (consultation on community affairs and the sharing of news), and a social part (food and friendship). ʻAbdu'l-Bahá emphasized that all three are essential.

Why does the 19 Day Feast move on the Gregorian calendar?
The Baháʼí year begins at Naw-Rúz, the day of the spring equinox as calculated for Tehran. Because the equinox falls on March 20 in some years and March 21 in others, every month start date — and therefore every 19 Day Feast — shifts by one day in those years.
